Experts and academics warned of the possibility of violence and chaos in the elections because of sharp political polarization and politicization of the tribes. The participants at a symposium held in Khartoum about the potential for violence in the elections criticized provocative and irresponsible preaching and statements of some political forces in government and the opposition. They described it as undemocratic according to Mohammed Mahjub Harun, director of the Center for Peace Research.
