Internal fighting leads to displacement in Jebel Marra region

Hundreds of people fled from their villages in Merri chiefdom to Nerteti. They escaped the armed confrontations between two competing movements in Jebel Marra according to sources.  A local witness told Radio Dabanga the people fled in the aftermath of battles between fighters loyal to the Sudan Liberation Movement (SLM) of Abdul Wahid against other fighters affiliated with the SLM movement of Ahmed Abdul Shafi. The source added there is still violence for the third consecutive day. Radio Dabanga has learned that the displaced dwelled in very poor conditions and appeared to be exhausted. Radio Dabanga was unable to reach out to the affected areas.
