Two Justice and Equality Movement (JEM) members are sentenced to death by hanging for their alleged involvement in the attack on Omdurman in May 2008. The Criminal Court headed by Judge Mudassir Rashid sentenced the two men. The court in Khartoum North acquitted five others and set them free.
JEM condemned the verdicts as invalid and unconstitutional. JEM spokesman Ahmed Hussein Adam said in a statement released to Radio Dabanga the move is a clear breach of the goodwill agreement signed between JEM and the government in February last year. Hussein Adam labeled a court that issued such verdicts as terrorists and old fashioned inquisitionist’s.
