Humanitarian situation worsens in Jebel Moon, West Darfur

A member of the Misseriya Jebel tribal council, Assuni Mohamed Ahmed, said that the humanitarian situation in Jebel Moon is deteriorating. Assuni Mohamed is also the former director of the Jebel Moon Charity. The area was reportedly the scene of fighting on Saturday between the rebel Justice and Equality Movement and government forces. Civilians fleeing from the clashes sought refuge in eastern Chad. One source said that those fleeing toward the border were attacked by air and with heavy weapons, resulting in injury to an undetermined number of people and death of five civilians. Aid organizations evacuated about 150 of those who fled to the Chadian border because of the bombing, out of an estimated 2000 people in the area.
