Darfur civil society forum to meet in Doha on 12 July

Darfuri civil society representatives will meet in Doha on 12 July, for the second major Darfuri civil society conference to be held in the Arabian Gulf city. The first consultation was held in November 2009 under the auspices of the international mediators of the conflict between Darfur’s rebel movements and the government. The Sudanese government and the Liberation and Justice Movement have agreed to proceed with negotiating different issues through six joint committees. The mediation team said in a statement that committee on compensation and return of refugees and displaced will begin their work on 29 June.Meanwhile the coordinator of the displaced camps in Zalingei denied that any persons represented them at the Doha negotiations. He said that Afaf Idriss Kinjum, Jibril Abdel Karim Al Tahir, and Al Nur Yaqoub, who presented themselves to the UN-African Union Mission in Darfur as representatives of Hamadiya Camp, and Ismail Hamid Juma’a, Mohamed Ahmed Hajam, and Lila Arbab Hagar who presented themselves as representatives of Hassa Hissa Camp, have nothing to do with the camps and all live inside Zalingei town.
