Educator at Kalma camp says 20.000 students not enrolled
An education official in Kalma camp disclosed the presence of more than 20.000 children outside the education system due to economic conditions of the displaced persons who inhabit the camp. He explained that the camp has 12 schools with 232 teachers, of whom only 25 have salaries paid by the ministry. Parents of pupils at the other schools pay the salaries of the 207 other teachers, he explained. As a result to the tuition fees have risen to 50 pounds per year per student, and he appealed to the government and people of Darfur at home and abroad to contribute to support the education of displaced persons. Kalma is the largest camp in South Darfur.
