Doctor in Ireland advises Darfuris on malaria prevention
A doctor interviewed by Radio Dabanga offered tips for citizens in Darfur regarding diseases prevalent during the rainy season, including malaria. Dr. Hashem Abdullah Mukhtar, Internal Medicine Specialist at a hospital in Dublin, Ireland, told citizens to fill in holes that have been left after construction so that these do not become a breeding place for mosquitoes in the rainy season. He explained that spraying pesticides on stagnant water and using smoke and mosquito nets are also effective methods of malaria prevention.
