US envoy to Sudan to visit El Fasher in North Darfur
Scott Gration, the retired Air Force general who is US President Obama’s special envoy to Sudan, is expected to begin a visit to El Fasher in North Darfur on Wednesday. He will review the humanitarian situation in the state and visit displaced persons in the camps around the city. The acting governor said that he welcomes the visit of the American envoy to El Fasher and said it is a good opportunity for him to find out the situation on the ground for himself. The US envoy was in Khartoum on Tuesday and will attend the African Union summit in Kampala after his travel in Darfur, according to remarks made today by the US State Department Spokesman Philip Crowley.
