Military hunting killers of Darfur official; dozens of arrests in Kass
The armed forces have embarked on a large-scale military campaign to eliminate the armed group believed to be responsible for assassinating the Executive Director of Shataya Locality, Radio Dabanga has learnt.The wanted gunmen last Friday ambushed the local official on the road and abducted two army soldiers and a security officer in Shataya Locality. Sources said that the gunmen told a group of travelers on the road to deliver a letter to the governor demanding the release of the deputy nazir of the Misseriya Jebel tribe. A source told Radio Dabanga from Kass that forces went to the area from several directions, including from Nyala by way of the Um Labasa – Kass road, and from Garsila. The source pointed out that the armed group has seized two military Land Cruisers and nineteen military weapons, including a Dushka gun, and they went to an unknown destination.Another source told Radio Dabanga from Kass that after the assassination, security arrested dozens of people from the Ta’alba and Misseriya Jebel tribes, suspecting them of a connection to the incident.
