El Fasher, Darfur streets disrupted by heavy security

El Fasher was at a standstill yesterday and traffic between neighborhoods was disrupted after the authorities stepped up their security presence. More troops, armored police and army personnel were in the streets in anticipation of demonstrations alleged to be linked to the Mawasir scam. However, the chairman of the victims’ committee of the Mawasir market, Adam Hamed, denied having called for demonstrations.
