Darfur rebel official: NCP plots to dismantle camps, caused Kalma riot
The Justice and Equality Movement said that the latest violence in Kalma and Hamadiya Camps is the fault of the National Congress. The movement’s spokesman, Ahmed Hussein Adam, said that the violence confirms the movement’s assertion that the ruling party plans to dismantle the camps as a prelude to its solution of the Darfur problem. Ahmed Hussein said that the government at every level, from the President of the Republic down to the wali of South Darfur, are part of a conspiracy against the IDP camps. Rebel leaders have declined to take responsibility for the violence last week, which allegedly involved supporters of rival rebel factions. Abdel Wahid Al Nur, the exiled militant whose supporters were implicated by the UN, likewise accused the National Congress of being behind the violence. In an interview with Radio Dabanga over the weekend, he accused the ruling party of distributing weapons and causing tensions in the camps.
