Fears of violence, fires persist in Kalma IDP Camp, South Darfur

The residents of Kalma Camp for internally displaced people (IDPs) said that they still face ongoing threats of violence and fires. The displaced people said in this regard that fires broke out at a primary school center. One of the displaced said as well that threats of violence are preventing the return of displaced people to blocks 1, 2, and 3 in Kalma camp. He accused the government agencies of carrying out shooting at night. Another camp official, one of the young men’s leaders, told Radio Dabanga that the displaced lack full food rations and he affirmed that they are beginning Ramadan with their hands and homes empty of any food. Kalma Camp witnessed a bout of violence among residents that culminated in fighting on 29 July that claimed several lives. The government of South Darfur said that 15 died in the clash and 30 were wounded. The camp is located outside of the largest town in Darfur, Nyala.
