Darfur negotiations suspended during month of Ramadan

The joint mediation suspended the Darfur peace negotiations in Doha yesterday, Tuesday, to allow a pause for Ramadan. Negotiations between the government and the Liberation and Justice Movement will resume formally after Eid Al Fitr on the files of justice and reconciliation, compensation and return of the displaced.The government delegation has returned to Khartoum. The spokesman of the Liberation and Justice Movement, Abdullah Mursal, said that the parties have already discussed the issues related to overall justice and compensation and return of the displaced persons, adding that the parties made significant progress on these two subjects. But he said there are some difficulties between the two sides over the justice file, especially with regard to implementation mechanisms for justice.

The displaced people of Darfur are hoping that the coming month will be a time of peace. One of the displaced said on Radio Dabanga from the camp at Um Tajok in western Darfur that the displaced there send their wishes for the month of Ramadan to be a month of peace, goodness and blessing to the people of Darfur and the Sudan. He said he hoped that there would be peace, security and stability in Darfur this year, stressing that their joy will be complete only upon returning with honor and dignity to their homes from which they were displaced.
