West Darfur State and minor rebel faction expect deal today
The Government of West Darfur announced that it expected to sign today a final agreement with a minor rebel faction based in the Jebel Moon area. The agreement would be signed in El Geneina with the Reform and Liberation Movement, a faction derived in part from the Justice and Equality Movement. The final peace agreement between them includes an agreement on power-sharing. As part of the deal the movement would appoint an adviser to the governor, and receive 25 positions in the state government, according to the qualifications of the nominees. The movement’s spokesman Yasser Al Tayeb Mohamed said this in an interview in El Geneina.Mohamed Musa Ahmed, the spokesman for the Government of West Darfur and Minister of Urban Planning, told Radio Dabanga that the agreement will be signed today in the presence of Dr. Ghazi Salah Al Din, the federal official in charge of the Darfur file. The minister stressed that the state government is the guarantor of the agreement and its implementation. The Reform and Liberation Movement is derived from breakaway elements of the Justice and Equality Movement (JEM) and the Sudan Liberation Army (SLA) in the Jebel Moon area. Jebel Moon was a stronghold of JEM until it fell to government forces in May 2010.
