The National Press Council suspended for one day The Citizen newspaper after it illegally ran an advert for a brand of beer. Osman Shinger, the editor in chief, was questioned before the Press Council last Wednesday. Over the weekend the Council sent a notice ordering the paper not to publish on Monday.
Shinger confirmed to Radio Dabanga that he has not been jailed, as reported elsewhere.
The Citizen is an English-language paper printed in Khartoum but widely distributed in Juba, South Sudan. It is headed by Nhial Bol.
