Fighting broke out in South Darfur yesterday as a group of Arab fighters declared loyalty to Abdel Wahid Al Nur. A force of 12 Land Cruisers and 3 tanks attacked Kailik camp, which belongs to Abdel Wahid’s faction, in Jebel Kargo yesterday. The attack led to the killing of 17, the wounding of others and the burning of villages and neighboring farms, which caused residents to flee into the mountains, according to rebel commander Hamid Ibrahim.
On the same day, the ‘Movement for Struggle, Change and Development’, purportedly consisting of 2055 Arab fighters and led by Al Suwar Musa, joined the rebellion. The fighters are based in Jebel Kargo and Um Sarir. Their spokesman announced yesterday to Radio Dabanga that they were officially joining the SLM leadership of Abdel Wahid Al Nur.
Spokesman Faisal Ibrahim Abdelrahim said the troops that have joined Abdel Wahid reside on Jebel Kargo and Um Sarir. He affirmed that they will work with the Sudan Liberation Movement in order to remove the marginalization of Darfur and to prevent the tribes from being used to fight each other.
