Internally displaced persons face difficulties at three camps in Seraf Omra of Kebkabiya Locality in North Darfur. The displaced described the situation as very difficult in respect of food, health and education. One resident told Radio Dabanga that abduction, murder, and looting occurs in the camps almost daily. He referred to the abduction of Halima Ibrahim Abdullah and Ismail Adam Suleiman from their homes last week. They have not been released despite that a ransom was paid.
Those who carry out the abductions are described as armed and uniformed men who use Land Cruisers.
A group of families in the camp, about 350 of them, are in desperate need of food, according to sources in the camp, because they have not received any food since last year. They lost their ration cards due to flooding in the camps.
Sources said also that four IDP women died in childbirth last month in the absence of a health center.
About 90% of school-age children in these camps do not attend school. Speaking over Radio Dabanga from Seraf Omra, IDPs called on the United Nations and humanitarian organizations, especially the World Food Program, for relief and protection.
