Sudanese authorities have released the Darfuri activist Kauther Abdelhaq after more than three months under arrest. In a written statement, a committee of Darfuri lawyers yesterday welcomed the decision to release Kauther Abdelhaq.
Sudanese authorities have released the Darfuri activist Kauther Abdelhaq after more than three months under arrest. In a written statement, a committee of Darfuri lawyers yesterday welcomed the decision to release Kauther Abdelhaq.The lawyers also called for the release of remaining detainees from Darfur, including Mr. Jaafar Sabki Ibrahim, a columnist for Al Sahafa newspaper; Mr. Abdelrahman Adam Abdelrahmen, a journalist for Radio Dabanga; Ms. Fatima Mohamed Al Hassan, an activist for Darfuri women’s rights; and Ms. Fatima Irsaad, a civil rights activist.
The lawyers affirmed in their statement that Ms. Al Hassan and Ms. Irsaad are both suffering from chronic diseases and ill treatment. The lawyers requested the release of these detainees, as well as all political prisoners, particularly prisoners of conscience, journalists and students.
