Sudanese fleeing Libya arrive in North Darfur
About 60 Sudanese migrants from Libya, primarily women and children, have temporarily settled in Malha in northeast Darfur. They urgently require water and other basic services, according to an UN team that visited them.
About 60 Sudanese migrants from Libya, primarily women and children, have temporarily settled in Malha in northeast Darfur. They urgently require water and other basic services, according to an UN team that visited them.A team of UN agencies, as well as Government representatives and UNAMID’s Humanitarian Liaison Office staff, yesterday visited Malha, North Darfur, to assess the humanitarian needs of migrants who arrived in the locality from Libya.
Many of the returnees, who are largely migrant workers, left Sudan several years ago to search for job opportunities in Libya. They have now fled in the wake of that country’s current crisis, and because of security concerns. More Sudanese families are expected to arrive from Libya in the coming days.
Thousands of other Darfuris fleeing Libya, primarily men, crossed the Libya-Chad border and have yet to return to Darfur.
