Luis Moreno Ocampo, the prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC), said that the report which he will be presenting to the Security Council (SC) on Wednesday concerning Darfur will include a new strategy in dealing with the case of the President Omar Al Bashir. Speaking to a German news agency, Ocampo said that ‘the situation in Darfur is terrible’ as fear still exists inside camps and no great change has occurred in Darfur. Ocampo said it is necessary to put an end to the crimes taking place.
Commenting on the trips that President Omar Al Bashir has taken outside of Sudan since the warrant for his arrest, Ocampo said ‘Al Bashir cannot be proud of his presence for two hours outside Sudan and there is no head of state who takes pride in spending hours or visiting a place for hours only.’
Ocampo said that ‘Al Bashir is living a state of fear and that is clear. It is just a matter of time and he has to be held accountable by justice.’
Ocampo directed a message to the people of Darfur saying ‘I continue to pursue justice in Darfur and will continue to think every morning that passes of what I could do for them and will continue to think without stopping about the people of Darfur till justice is achieved but the real question remains: how many people have to die till justice is achieved? And the criminal brought to justice? I do not doubt that eventually they will be brought to justice because the time for that will come without a doubt.’
