‘Red Crescent secretary-general a militia leader’

SPLM spokesperson Qamar Dahlman accuses Osman Jaafar of implementing a military campaign in South Kordofan

Sudan People’s Liberation Movement’s (south division) spokesperson Qamar Dahlman accused Red Crescent’s secretary general Osman Jaafar of being a militia leader in Kadugli, the capital of South Kordofan.

Dahlman added that South Kordofan governor Ahmed Harun was abusing his powers by letting the Sudanese Red Crescent implement a military campaign in the state.

Executed civilians are still being buried illegally in Kadugli, seemingly a cover up and in violation of international law. “The SPLM (south division) keeps a record of what is taking place against the people of the Nuba Mountains, South Kordofan, which can be integrated in the International Criminal Court case files against President Omar al-Bashir and Ahmed Harun,” Dahlman told Radio Dabanga.

The Sudanese Red Crescent Society claims it had to burry dozens of corpses in the aftermath of the fighting that erupted in Southern Kordofan last June. Osman Jaafar reported that they buried bodies from both sides — the Nuban people as well as government forces — in accordance with international standards.

He asserted that one grave consisted of 59 bodies, while another held 11 civilians, including two children and a woman. He added that 48 bodies in a third grave belonged to soldiers from both sides. The secretary general stated that 55 of the bodies had already decomposed.

These graves could possibly be the same mass graves that were recently discovered by the US rights group that is taking satellite images, funded by US actor George Clooney. The group concluded that visual patterns on satellite pictures of South Kordofan pointed towards the existence of three mass graves in Kadugli, containing more than 100 bodies.
