Government forces arrested members of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North (SPLM-N) and shut down its offices in different parts of the country on Saturday, the opposition group said in a statement.The party also accused the government forces of confiscation of its equipment and furniture in the capital Khartoum as well as other cities.

In West Darfur, state security authorities arrested five members of the movement in the city of El Geneina and confiscated vehicles in West and North Darfur.

In North Darfur’s El Fasher Shakoor Isaac, administrative secretary of the movement, Abalmagd Ahmed Fazal, a member of the political bureau and Izz Mohammadein Kenjok, secretary of the youth and students were arrested.

Salwa Adam Binnaiya arrested

Security authorities in El Geneina arrested Salwa Adam Binnaiya, a Darfuri activist and a member of the transitional national assembly of the SPLM-North, on Friday.

The security forces arrested her from her family house in El Geneina, West Darfur, and took her to an undisclosed location.

The Darfuri lawyers’ association demanded in a statement that constitutional rights of Salwa Adam Binnaiya such as right to human dignity be respected.

It also demanded that Binnaiya, who is the chairperson of the SPLM in Geddaref, be allowed to meet her family and parents, apart from being given access to her lawyer. He added that there must be a complete prohibition of torture and provision of therapy as well as a fair trial or her immediate release.
