Government says the decision is in line with the Doha agreement
Sudan’s president Omar Al Bashir appointed Tijani Sese, head of the Liberation and Justice Movement (LJM), as the president of the regional authority in Darfur on Wednesday. The government said in a statement that Sese’s appointment was in line with the Doha peace agreement signed between the government of Sudan and the LJM in July, earlier this year.
Kalma cap leaders condemn visit
Meanwhile, sheikhs (camp leaders) of the Kalma refugee camp in South Darfur condemned a visit by LJM members led by Ahmed Abdul Shafi. The leaders alleged that they hadn’t received any prior intimation regarding the visit.
The camp coordinator for humanitarian affairs told Radio Dabanga that the group’s visit was accompanied by seven cars belonging to central reserve forces, also known as Abu Tira, which in turn spread fear and terror among the camp residents.
Ahmed Fadel, spokesperson of the LJM, admitted that there had been little participation from the sheikhs at Kalma camp in receiving the visiting group of LJM members.
“Maybe the sheikhs didn’t have an idea about the visit because of the large size of the camp,” Fadel told Radio Dabanga.
Meanwhile, he claimed that the LJM’s visit to the camp was routine and asked the refugees in the camp to endorse the peace agreement signed by the LJM and the government.
