The Sudan People’s Liberation Army (SPLA) in South Kordofan announced that it had attacked a Sudanese army’s convoy and allied militia in Rashad area in the eastern region of the state on Saturday.Arno Nagotulu, spokesperson of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North (SPLM-N), the political wing of the SPLA, told Radio Dabanga that the SPLA was ready to take on Bashir’s government forces.


“This is a response to Bashir’s claims that they will be offering thanksgiving prayers in Kurmuk. This operation is enough to prove that we are ready to take over the Sudanese army,” Nagotulu told Radio Dabanga.


Radio Dabanga could not contact the Sudanese army for a response.


SAF bombing in South Kordofan


The Sudanese Air Force (SAF) bombed regions of Korgy, Tengil, Al Buram in Umm Dureen locality of South Kordofan on Saturday, civilians in the area told Radio Dabanga.


“An Antonov aircraft dropped six bombs in Korgy, three in Tengil and one in Al Buram area. The bombing led to the deaths of large number of livestock, but no civilians died or got injured in the attacks,” a civilian said.


The Antonov aircrafts continued flying over the area from early morning until Saturday night, which spread panic and fear amongst the civilians.


Air raids by the SAF in South Kordofan have been a consistent occurrence in the aftermath of South Sudan’s independence from the North.
