A citizen of Fur Baranga in West Darfur was allegedly shot dead by the Sudanese armed forces in the presence of the United Nations African Mission in Darfur (UNAMID) on Sunday.Tijani Ahmed Adam was taking shelter in a UNAMID car when he was shot dead, a relative of the deceased told Radio Dabanga. “He was working for the Liberation and Justice Movement (LJM). He had just returned to Fur Baranga from Chad after the signing of the Doha peace agreement,” he said.
The Doha peace agreement was signed between the Sudanese government and the LJM in July, earlier this year. The action of the Sudanese army in this case raises questions regarding the alliance between the LJM and the government.
Tijani Ahmed Adam’s relative said that the LJM member had been arrested and detained by the military intelligence. “Adam had escaped yesterday from the detention camp and that’s when the fight broke out between the military and him. He was able to take shelter in a UNAMID car, but army soldiers shot him there.”
Meanwhile, the military intelligence detained two civilians from Fur Baranga without specifying any reasons for the arrest.
