Three women raped

Government-backed militia alleged to be behind the crime Three women refugees were allegedly raped by an armed group loyal to the Sudanese government in North Darfur’s Kassab camp on Friday, a relative of one of the victims told Radio Dabanga. The relative said that three armed men, two of them on camel backs and the third on a horse, attacked three women refugees on Friday. The women were on their way to collect firewood. “They took turns to rape the women. The women were beaten and their axes and ropes confiscated,” he said. The relative also told Radio Dabanga that they had alerted the United Nations African Mission in Darfur (UNAMID) forces in the region. However, the UNAMID forces had turned their backs on the refugees, claiming that they could not act without permission from the Sudanese police. The refugees then approached the police which said it could not take any action because of it didn’t have a car on duty.
