1,500 Zaghawa tribespeople displaced
They are now stranded between North Darfur and North Kordofan after being forced out of their homesOver 1,500 people belonging to the Zaghawa tribe from Al Tuesha locality in North Darfur have been displaced due to violence, some of the affected told Radio Dabanga on Sunday.The Zaghawa tribespeople, currently stranded between North Darfur and North Kordofan regions, are suffering from “tragic humanitarian conditions,” one of the survivors told Radio Dabanga. He said that the displaced people were living in the open, without shelter or food.Other refugees told Radio Dabanga that local militias drove them away from their homes after killing at least 10 people and wounding 30 others. The survivors also accused the militia of taking over and burning down homes and shops of dozens of villagers. A lot of them were also allegedly subject to torture.“They plundered all our property, money, livestock and other belongings,” one of them said adding that they had come to Ribesh locality in Northern Darfur after being forced out of their homes. However, the commissioner of the locality allegedly asked them to evacuate within 24 hours. One of the refugees told Radio Dabanga that the commissioner claimed to have received instructions from the central and state government of North Darfur to push out the refugees. This has led to them being stranded on the border of North Darfur and North Kordofan.The displaced persons appealed to the United Nations and other humanitarian organizations to protect them and save their lives by providing them with shelter, food and medicines.
