SPLM-N admits surrender at Kurmuk
Says however that this is not the end of the warThe Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North (SPLM-N) in Blue Nile admitted on Thursday that Sudanese armed forces had gained control of the city of Kurmuk, an opposition stronghold.Yasser Arman, secretary general of the SPLM-N in Blue Nile, said that the capture of Kurmuk by government troops doesn’t imply the end to the war, but merely an end to one battle.Sudanese president Omar Al Bashir had announced in a speech in Khartoum a couple of days ago that his military men would offer prayers of Eid Al Adha, which will be celebrated on Sunday, from Kurmuk.In response to Bashir, Arman said in a statement issued on Friday that the ones offering Eid prayers in Kurmuk are praying to the Imam of war criminals. “They aren’t offering respect to Jerusalem but to the skulls of those dead in the Blue Nile offensive.”He added that the ruling National Congress Party (NCP) hadn’t learned from the mistakes it had committed in the past: “We have taken back Kurmuk from the government five times so far.”
