Delegates discuss peace in Darfur with assistant secretary of state for African affairsThe US assistant secretary of State for African affairs Johnnie Carson met with the delegates of the Sudan Revolutionary Front (SRF) in Washington on Monday.The SRF delegation, which included members of Justice and Equality Movement (JEM), Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North (SPLM-N) and Sudan Liberation Army/Movement-Minni Minnawi (SLA-MM), met with Carson on the sidelines of the workshop held in Washington last week.The US administration had organized a workshop at the Institute of Peace in Washington to provide a platform for various Darfuri stakeholders to voice their opinion about ways to achieve peace in Darfur.Adam Issa Hassabo, member of the SRF and the deputy secretary of the foreign offices for the JEM, said the meeting dealt with the vision of the SRF and peace in Darfur.“We also spoke about the Kauda alliance and the humanitarian situation in areas affected by war in Darfur, Blue Nile and South Kordofan,” Adam Issa Hassabo said.He added that they assured the American official that the alliance represents the core of the Sudanese opposition. “We are thinking of effective solutions to the issues of Sudan in a comprehensive and definitive way,” he said.Hassabo confirmed that they told Johnnie Carson that they did not believe in partial solutions which have proved futile in the past. Instead the SRF would like to have comprehensive processes which need to be part of comprehensive solutions.
