Reactions to request ICC arrest warrant

The ministry of Justice considered the request of the Prosecutor of the ICC for the arrest warrant of Defense Minister General Abdul Rahim Mohammed Hussein as a political decision. The ministry considered it a selective decision that lacks legal ground and containing clear politicization of justice in terms of timing and events taking place in Sudan.

The armed forces asserted in a statement that the targeting of the Minister of Defense is targeting to the armed forces. The statement stressed that the arrest warrant will not affect the morale of the Sudanese army.

Displaced people in camps in Qarsla coming from Deleij, Arola, Mukjar and Bendasi on the other hand confirmed that Minister Abdul Rahim has committed those crimes and recruited militias with Ahmed Haroun. They hold him responsible for the burning their villages, the rapes of their women and displacement.

One of the displaced people who is also a victims from Wadi Salih where Abdul Rahim, Kushayb and Ahmed Haroun are accused of committing war crimes and crimes against humanity, said that the arrest warrant came late and should have been issued released from the very beginning.

Imam Saddig Elmahadi, the leader of the National Umma Party called for an investigation on all crimes committed in Darfur and for the achievements of justice and dealing realistically with the ICC as it is a part of the system of the international community. In a press conference in Daein on Saturday, Elmahadi called on Darfur to become one province and one territory and he renewed his rejection on adding states to the region and the establishment of two states in Zalingei and east of Darfur.
