SLM and JEM sign alliance agreement

New union aims to topple the current regime

The agreement for an alliance between the Justice and Equality Movement (JEM) and the Sudanese Liberation Movement for Justice (SLM) has been made official, as representatives of both groups signed an accord. The document was signed by SLM leader Dr. Musa Taj Din Hassan and JEM Vice-President Ahmed Adam Bakhit.The two movements hope to mobilize all forces of resistance and change in Sudan in order to topple the current regime, led by the National Congress Party (NCP). They also aim to achieve structural change within the government, eliminate all forms of political marginalization, economic downfall and social constraints, which they blame on the alienation of cultural excellence.

The document describes the mechanisms of the joint political action, as well as the promotion and development of a joint military coordination on the field. Mr. Bakhit said in an interview with Radio Dabanga that this initiative might be a step towards an eventual fusion between both parties in the future.  

SLM – leader Dr. Musa Taj El-Din Hassan confirmed the news, and stressed that “this advanced alliance signed with the JEM comes as a response to the aspirations of the people of Darfur, displaced persons, refugees and the marginalized. Our primary goal is to topple the regime and achieve structural change in the national government for the benefit of all the people of Sudan.”
