Duma: Release all political prisoners
Head of Darfur Lawyers’ Association demands political freedom in SudanThe Darfur Lawyers’ Association called for the release all those sentenced, imprisoned or under trial in cases regarding the Darfur crisis on Friday to commemorate World Justice Day.Head of the association Mohammed Abdulla Duma told Radio Dabanga that the body demands the release of all the arrested Darfuris and Sudanese prisoners of conscience, currently held in different parts of the country by the ruling regime.Duma called on the government to respect and implement human rights’ laws and give room for political freedom as well as lift all restraints that limit political practice, freedom of expression, media and opinion.‘Situation in Darfur, terrible’On the other hand, prisoners, human rights’ activists, refugees and displaced people described the humanitarian situation in Sudan, and in Darfur particularly, as terrible and still witnessing deterioration. They referred to the widespread violations in Darfur, Blue Nile and South Kordofan on civilians.On the occasion of World Justice Day, the displaced people stated in a Radio Dabanga poll that there was no existence to human rights in Darfur. They said that they were witnessing violations on a daily basis.They also stated that for human rights to return to Sudan, the international community has to pay attention to what is happening in Darfur and send those indicted by the International Criminal Court to trial and hold them accountable.They also stressed that no justice and freedom of rights would come to Sudan unless the regime is changed.
