Committee meets to discuss Sudanese refugees in Eastern Chad

The Technical Committee discussing the voluntary return of Sudanese refugees from Chad, held a meeting yesterday. The Committee, made up of three Sudanese, three Chadian government officials and representatives from the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) met to discuss procedures and solutions for Sudanese refugees. Abdullah Suleiman Deputy Commissioner of refugees for Sudan said that the meeting called for the need to work on improving the security conditions both in the camp and near the border. This would help to facilitate the voluntary return of refugees stranded at the border and provide services to them, as well as provide information on the situation in Darfur and locations of returning refugees. The final statement said that the Committee members needed to share more information on these matters to assist the return process, the source told Radio Dabanga. The three parties also agreed that Sudanese officials would visit the camps in Eastern Chad to talk with refugees and understand their needs as well as the situation in Darfur.
