Woman raped near Zam Zam camp
A woman was raped by two men dressed in military uniform in North Darfur on Tuesday, a witness told Radio Dabanga. The woman was living in Zam Zam camp for internally displaced persons (IDP) fleeing the conflict in the area. Carrying her four month old baby, she ventured out of the camp 2 km east to collect firewood. On her return, at the outskirts of the camp she was stopped by the two men. They injured her baby by grabbing and throwing him down on the ground. The IDP witness said that the woman tried to defend herself, but was overpowered, thrown to the ground and raped by force. The men allegedly used a knife after the rape and stabbed her in the face and genitals. They ran off as the woman was left alone, bleeding on the ground. A group of men and women heard the woman’s screams and went over to help the victim and her baby. Hoping to take her to hospital in El Fasher, the group were reportedly interrupted by Abu Tira forces, who refused to allow her to leave the camp to seek medical assistance. The woman and her baby were not given medical support until this morning when they were allowed to leave the camp to get to a hospital, said the source to Radio Dabanga.
