Joint Committee for implementing Doha holds first meeting
The joint committee for implementation of the Doha Document for Peace in Darfur has appreciated the spirit of cooperation between the concerned parties and the commitment to the realization of peace in DarfurIn its meeting Sunday at Cornithia Hotel in Khartoum, under chairmanship of the Joint Mediator of the UN and the African Union and Head of the UNAMID, Prof. Ibrahim Gambari, the committee stressed the importance of work to implement all the items pertinent to a permanent cease-fire and lasting security measures.A press release issued after the meeting indicated that the meeting was attended by two signatory parties of the agreement, Qatar, the Arab League, the European Union as members of the committee as well as China and Canada as observers.The committee reviewed a report presented by head of the cease-fire committee on the security situation in Darfur and the implementation of the agreement pertinent to the cease-fire and the final security measures.The committee decided to convene meetings of the committee whenever it is necessary, besides organizing meetings for the committee members and the observers toward identifying the situation on the ground.The joint committee has taken notice about a number of administrative and logistic issues for solving them with participation of the two parties, and agreed that these issues are to be referred to the cease-fire committee to solve them.
