Meeting held in Zam Zam camp
A meeting was held yesterday between leaders of Zam Zam Internally Displaced People’s camp, representatives of students, women, children, and UN security officials to review the security situation in the camp. The group discussed violations that had taken place since June 2011. These included rapes, murder, torture, looting, beatings, as well as attacks by Abu Tira forces said a witness to Radio Dabanga. A resident of the camp stated that the attacks escalated as the United Nations Mission in Darfur (UNAMID) stopped patrolling Zam Zam day and night leaving the environment more insecure. They also accused UNAMID of failing to report on those violations. The leaders of the camp appeal to UNAMID to exercise Chapter VII of the UN Charter to “restore peace and security” by expelling Abu Tira forces and protecting civilians.
