WFP: no new registration, no aid in Kalma

The World Food Programme (WFP) says that they are ready to talk with leaders of Kalma camp if they agree to the standard process of verification, a spokesperson said today. The leaders said yesterday that they are ready to meet the WFP to arrange food distribution and discuss the new registration cards. The residents of the camp have not received any food assistance for over three months. The WFP said they ‘welcome the willingness of the leaders of Kalma to discuss the issues. We will distribute food as soon as they agree to the standard verification process, which we discussed with them three months ago and which we have managed to carry out across 43 camps in Darfur.” They said the registration list needs updating as it was created six years ago. ‘Children have been born, some people have left the camp, we need to update the list and weed out the names that no longer need aid. We cannot distribute food until we have an accurate list’, said the spokesperson.
