SPLM appeal for plight of Nuba people

On the eve of the celebration of Christmas the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) in South Kordofan appeals to the world to remember the plight of the Nuba people. The statement said that the people of the Nuba mountains are facing ethnic cleansing by the Khartoum regime. The SPLM call for the international community to pressurize Khartoum to end air strikes which began in June, and allow delivery of humanitarian aid to the tens of thousands displaced. Media adviser to the SPLM in South Kordofan Qamar Dahlman, said the government destroyed churches, arrested and assassinated missionaries under the personal direction of President Omar al Bashir and Ahmed Haroun. He continued, ‘Ahmed Haroun, governor of South Kordofan and wanted by the International Criminal Court, continues to order killing, lynching, rape and displacement in the absence of intervention from the international community and its organizations.’ ‘The world must not forget our suffering at Christmas and take appropriate measures to end the tragedy for the people of Darfur, Blue Nile, South Kordofan, Manasir and all those facing injustices in Sudan’, said Dahlman. The adviser asserted in the interview with Radio Dabanga that since the early 1990’s, more than 400,000 Nuba people have been killed in ethnic cleansing under the leadership of President Bashir. He said, delaying the arrests of Omar Al Bashir, Ahmed Haroun and Abdel Rahim Mohammad Hussein will continue the suffering of the Sudanese people.
