Government accuses PCP of planning coup
The Sudanese government accused the Popular Congress Party affilated with Hassan Al Turabi of planning a military coup. In an address to the government last night, Mohammed Atta, head of Sudan’s security service said that Al Turabi keeps planning coup after coup and trying to implant the idea of an uprising amongst his followers. Kamal Omar, political secretary for the PCP denied the charge of a coup, and said the way to progress was through peaceful demonstrations, political strikes and sit-ins. He said the idea of military coup was being put forward by the ruling National Congress Party to give them a reason to arrest PCP leaders.
