Militia group threatens displaced person camp in Mershing

A group of armed men dressed in military uniform threatened residents at the internally displaced persons camp of El Tom Kitir, in Mershing, South Darfur on Sunday. A camp resident said the armed group entered the camp claiming to be searching for a donkey and camel that had been stolen from the group. They threatened a man named Abdul Rahman and asked him to tell them the place of their missing animals, but he said he did not know where they were. The militia group reportedly beat the man. He then reported the incident tor the police and they chased the militants out of the camp. The group threatened to return again if their animals were not returned. The source said the security situation in the camp remains poor, with the presence of armed men scattered throughout the camps. He called on authorities to improve security for camp residents in already vulnerable positions.
