Police chief accuses Riyadh camp leaders of planning protests against new governor
The head of police for El Geneina city in West Darfur, summoned three internally displaced persons (IDPs) camp leaders from Riyadh camp for investigations on Sunday. Sources said the police chief questioned the leaders for three hours about information he had received regarding plans to hold protests in conjunction with the arrival of the new governor, Haider Galo Koma Atim. The camp leaders said the accusations of were false and baseless. The source said this incident frightened IDPs, and they hope it is not a prelude to a widespread campaign of arrests and harassment of camp residents and activists. He added that yesterday 67 Riyadh camp representatives for all sectors including women and youth met to discuss these developments.
