DRA employees to protest lack of pay
Employees of the Darfur Regional Authority (DRA), are planning to hold a sit-in outside the presidential palace in Khartoum on Sunday if a dispute over financial entitlements is not settled. On Wednesday hundreds of workers gathered at the building of the General Secretariat of the DRA to demand payments of outstanding financial dues. A source said if the DRA fails to respond by Saturday, the workers will move the protest to the palace on Sunday. The Darfur Regional Authority was established under the Doha peace agreement signed between the government and the Sudan Liberation Movement led by Minni Minawi, a former Darfur rebel group. It consists of over 1,500 employees, with some former SLM-MM fighters making up the workforce.
