US envoy hopes non-signatory movements will join Doha peace process
The US presidential envoy for Darfur, Dane Smith announced a US plan for Early Recovery in Darfur in Khartoum on Sunday. At a press conference, Smith said the US hoped to make connections with non-signatory movements of the Doha peace agreement, and encourage them to join the Doha process. He could not say however, whether there was any progress in talks with the rebel movements. Smith called on Khartoum to show flexibility in dealing with Darfuri rebel movements and said the US remains optimistic about the Doha agreement. The envoy will visit the capitals of the five Darfur states, El Fasher, El Geneina, Nyala, Daein and Zalingei.
