UNAMID staff injured in car chase
Seven foreign police belonging to UNAMID were injured when their car overturned in the midst of chasing one of their vehicles stolen by a militia group. ‘The UNAMID car was hijacked by an armed group that sped off. Our forces chased the car which was abandoned around 6 km from our base in Kabkabiya,’ said UN/African Union Mission in Darfur spokesman Chris Cycmanick to Radio Dabanga. One of the cars overturned during the chase injuring seven staff with one said to be in a serious condition. Witnesses in Kabakabiya said the gunmen stole two UNAMID cars not one, however these details are yet to be verified.
