Security threaten to stop movement of Rango Tass IDPs

Security authorities in Azum locality threatened to prevent the movement of camp leaders and students from Rango Tass displaced camp in central Darfur. The leaders and students oppose the re-planning of the market within the camp which will be followed by the creation of a model village on the camp’s site, said a Rango Tass leader to Radio Dabanga. They fear this will begin the dismantling of the camp and leave camp residents without displaced status as they will be seen to be living in a village. Authorities threatened to prevent them from leaving the camp as they may spread their opposition amongst Rango Tass residents and encourage them not to support the Doha peace process. Sources said over two weeks ago the commissioner of Azum threatened to cordon off the camp with 700 army officers to prevent people going in or out. They added that one camp leader was already stopped from traveling to Khartoum with his son who required medical treatment. The commissioner also told the camp leaders that if the Doha peace process is not fully implemented he will know to blame the camp leaders.
