Police rape girl in C. Darfur camp
Eye witnesses told Radio Dabanga that an element of the popular police (neighborhood police) raped a 15-year old displaced girl from Bissindi camp, Central Darfur, on Sunday 2 September. A relative said he found the girl the next morning in very bad conditions. The girl’s relative told Radio Dabanga that the element of the popular police was armed and he raided the girl’s home at 11pm on Sunday. He added the men intimidated the girl’s family, took her away and raped her. He said he found the girl the next morning on the outskirts of the camp. Her family said they took the girl home and treated her with traditional medicines, as there is no hospital close to the camp. Various sources explained the perpetrator is known in the small area, and that the girl’s family reported the crime to the commander of the popular police. According to them, the commander assured to bring the perpetrator to justice but nothing has happened so far. A relative of the girl appealed to local and state authorities to arrest the perpetrator and bring him to justice.
