Authorities impose fees for road use
Displaced, citizens and merchants from Deleij, Central Darfur, expressed their discontent about compulsory fees imposed by authorities each time they use the Zalingei-Garsila road, they told Radio Dabanga on Thursday, 15 November. Citizens said that fees vary from two to 100 Sudanese pounds (SDG). They explained that the displaced must pay 2 SDG, horse-cart owners 10 SDG, restaurant owners 25 SDG and traders 100 SDG each time they use the road. Local citizens refuse to pay these fees, calling them ‘unfair’. They claimed these fees were imposed only for the benefit of the authorities, who do not take the circumstances of the displaced into account.
