Rebels ‘down Sudan Air Force drone’ in Kordofan
The Sudan Revolutionary Front (SRF) rebel coalition claims its forces “downed a drone of the Sudanese Air Forces” in Abu Karshola, South Kordofan, on Friday.Speaking to Radio Dabanga from the field, Colonel Al Gadi Rumboy said the drone crashed in Diydaan, northeast of Jebel Al Dair, which the rebels are “very close to capturing”.The Colonel stressed that air bombings continue in Abu Karshola and surrounding villages leading to the destruction “of civilian property and to the displacement of several people”.“Most residents are fleeing to El Rahad and Umm Rawaba, North Kordofan,” he said, also noting that intensified air raids are forcing more people to flee.Quoting figures provided by the Sudanese Humanitarian Aid Commission, the latest UN OCHA report released on Thursday said that by 12 May, more than 45,000 people had fled the fighting since it erupted in late April.At time of publishing, Radio Dabanga was not yet able to independently verify any of the above statements.File photoSee also: Advance on Abu Karshola repulsed – 411 Sudan soldiers dead: rebels (14 May 2013)
