CECAFA Kagame Cup kicks-off in Sudan’s South Kordofan as combat jets fly overhead
The Council for East and Central Africa Football Association (CECAFA) Kagame Cup tournament, kicked-off at Kadugli city’s Morta stadium on Tuesday, in spite of recent shelling of the area by SPLA-N rebel formations. During the afternoon match, as URA FC (also known as the ‘Ugandan Tax Collectors’) beat local team Al Hilal Kadugli 1:0, the live radio commentary by Badawi Obaid as well as the cheers of the soccer fans were frequently drowned-out by the sound of Sudan Air Force MiGs and Antonovs taking off from the nearby airport. The tournament, which is scheduled to run until 2 July, oscillating between Kadugli and the North Darfur capital El Fasher, will resume on Wednesday with matches in El Fasher.
