Gireida teacher transfer prompts mass resignations in South Darfur

A decision by the commissioner of Gireida locality in South Darfur to relocate two secondary school teachers out of the locality for security reasons has reportedly prompted their colleagues in the locality to resign en masse and irrevocably leave the locality in case the decision is implemented. One of the Gireida secondary school teachers revealed to Radio Dabanga that the commissioner of the locality has issued a decision whereby two secondary school teachers, Mohamed Musa Daoud and Ibrahim Bush, will be relocated outside the locality. As reported by Radio Dabanga last week, both teachers were apprehended by agents of Sudan’s National Intelligence and Security Services (NISS). The secondary school teachers of the locality thereupon decided to submit their resignations, holding the commissioner responsible for the transfer of both teachers. Nevertheless, the commissioner, who is also heading the local Security committee, insisted on the implementation of his decision. A teacher of the Gireida secondary school confirmed to Radio Dabanga that on Wednesday the Director of the Department of Higher Education handed Daoud and Bush a letter of transfer. Daoud is supposed to go to the secondary school of Dito and and Bush to the secondary school of Jokhana. Another three teachers of the Gireida secondary school received a letter of transfer too. The teacher claimed that the president of the National Congress Party (NCP) in the locality, Jamal Ali Shumu, offered Daoud the possibility to stay in exchange for his registration as an NCP member, and that Daoud rejected the offer. The teacher added that the teachers of Gireida secondary school now have decided to present a memo to the local Education Administration to cancel the transfers.
